As the flood water slowly recedes in Mymensingh’s Haluaghat and Dhobaura, scars are emerging. In these two bordering upazilas, about 55 crore 43 lakh tk of fish were washed away by the flood. 6 thousand 875 farmers have been affected. And the loss of Aman rice is Tk 269 crore. Lakhs of people were trapped in these areas due to landslides and heavy rains on October 4.
According to the information of the district fisheries department, 6 thousand 150 fish farms of Haluaghat upazila were completely submerged in the flood. In this, 1 thousand 120 tons of fish and 50 tons of fish of 4 thousand 20 farmers were washed away. As a result, there was a loss of 22 million tk of fish and 75 million tk of fish.
In Dhobaura upazila, 4 thousand 296 fish farms were completely submerged in water. 2 thousand 145 tons of fish and 12 tons of fry of 2 thousand 850 farmers were washed away. As a result, there was a loss of 32 crore 18 lakh fish and 50 lakh tk of fish.
Kamrul Mia, a fish farmer of Porakandulia village of Dhobaura, said that he has been cultivating native fish in the farm for the past 12 years. After midnight on October 4, his farm was flooded with fish worth about 20 lakh tk. He said, I took a loan of 30 lakh tk from two government banks for fish farming. Now I don’t know how to pay this money.
Nazim Uddin, Deputy Director of Mymensingh District Fisheries Department, said that the work of making a list of affected fish farmers is underway by inspecting the flood-affected areas on the ground. At the end of the list, the higher authorities will be informed.
Meanwhile, 13,200 hectares of aman crops were damaged in Dhobaura due to floods. The amount of loss in tk is 134 crores and 74 lakhs. Golam Sarwar Tushar, Agriculture Officer of Dhobaura Upazila, said that it will take time for the farmers to recover from this loss. And in Haluaghat, 12 thousand 800 hectares of paddy has been damaged, the amount of which is about 13 crore taka. Haluaghat Upazila Agriculture Officer Mahbubur Rahman said, we will try to make
