The government has ordered to take action against extortionists

Stating that the government is well aware of crimes like extortion, Chief Adviser Deputy Press Secretary Abul Kalam Azad Majumdar said necessary action will be taken against extortionists in the garment sector.


In a press briefing at the Foreign Service Academy on Tuesday (October 15) evening, he said, ‘The government is quite aware of extortion. If the readymade garment sector is affected due to extortion, then necessary steps will be taken in this regard.’

In response to a question, Azad said that the government has already issued all necessary instructions to the police to take action against those involved in extortion.

Regarding the recent instability in the garment sector, he said, this instability has now been brought to a tolerable level.

According to the Chief Adviser’s Press Wing, about 99.26 percent of garment factories in Savar, Ashulia and Gazipur are open and the country’s ready-made garment sector is back to normal.

The press wing also informed that no untoward incident occurred in the garment industry of Savar, Ashulia, Narayanganj and Gazipur. At present three factories out of 407 factories in Savar and Ashulia area are closed. All factories are open in Narayanganj. Out of 871 factories in Gazipur, two are closed.

Chief Adviser’s Press Secretary Shafiqul Alam was also present in the press briefing.
