The flood water has started to recede in the corner of the eye

The flood situation in Netrakona has improved somewhat due to continuous rains and landslides. Although there has been some improvement in Purbadhala, Kalmakanda, Durgapur of the district, the flood situation remains unchanged in the lower areas of Sadar and Barhatta upazilas. Today, the water in all the rivers has started to recede.


According to the latest information of the Netrakona Water Development Board, today Wednesday (October 9), the water of the Updakhali river is flowing 13 cm above the flood limit at Kalmakanda point. The water of river Kangs in the district is flowing below 64 cm at Jaria point, water of river Someswari is flowing below 2.49 meters at point Durgapur and water of river Dhanu is flowing below 1.61 meters at point Khaliajuri.

Meanwhile, Updakhali water flowed 23 cm above the flood limit at Kalmakanda Dakbungalow point yesterday, but today it has decreased by 10 cm to 13 cm.

Meanwhile, even though the flood water has receded, the suffering of Banvasi people has increased. There is severe food shortage among people and food shortage for livestock. Along with this, the farmers and fish farmers have become disoriented as the farmers’ crops and fish in the pond were swept away by the flood water. About 24 thousand hectares of Aman paddy land is submerged in water.

According to the district administration, at least 140 villages of 27 unions have been flooded in different upazilas of Netrakona. At least 65 thousand people are trapped in water. 43 families have settled in the shelter. Aman paddy of 24 thousand hectares of land has been submerged in water. 1,400 pond fish were washed away, with an estimated loss of Tk 700 crore.

According to the information of the district primary education office, teaching has been stopped in 186 educational institutions of different upazilas due to floods and inundation.

Even though 800 packets of dry food, three lakh taka and 70 metric tons of rice have been distributed from the district administration till yesterday, it has not reached all the areas of the people trapped in the flood.
