Information adviser Nahid Islam said that until noon on August 5, snipers were fired at the protesting students. That day, Sheikh Hasina ordered all her leaders, activists and police forces to stay in the field and fled the country without informing anyone. Due to his decision, many policemen died that day. Sheikh Hasina is responsible for these deaths.
He said these things at the function organized on the occasion of the 70th anniversary of the National Press Club on Sunday.
Nahid Islam said, we know about the various struggles of media and journalists in Bangladesh. On the other hand, I also know about the brokering of fascism and dictatorship. We got new Bangladesh through July coup. The freedom that the media is enjoying today has never been possible in Bangladesh before.
The adviser said the spirit and aspirations of the July uprising were being systematically removed from the media. This is very sad. Many of our brothers and sisters are still suffering from injuries in the hospital. Many people are still being martyred, but the news about the martyrs and the injured in our media is decreasing day by day. They are being erased from public memory.
Besides, several media outlets are referring to the martyrs killed in the July uprising, which is very sad. Where they are mentioned as martyrs in all the announcements of the interim government, the people of the country have termed them as martyrs, the media is shying away from calling them martyrs.
He said, I told Time magazine that Sheikh Hasina is a psychopath and a bloodsucker, so it has been proved. We were doing a systematic movement first. First of all the greedy forces of the government attacked us. We repeatedly talked about accepting our demands but they put us at gunpoint. You have seen how we have been disappeared and picked up and tortured.
Nahid said that now Sheikh Hasina is inciting her supporters in the country to do anti-government movement. I want to tell them that Sheikh Hasina cannot return to Bangladesh to do politics, she will return only to stand on the gallows.
Mahmudur Rahman, Editor of Amar Desh Patrika, Hasan Hafiz, President of Jatiya Press Club, Ayub Bhuiyan, General Secretary were present on the occasion.
