President Md. BNPO wants to stop the crisis on Sahabuddin’s resignation issue. After the fall of Sheikh Hasina’s government, BNP has been in agreement with the anti-discrimination student movement for the formation of a new government or various issues in the last two and a half months, but some feel that this is the first time that differences are being seen on the issue of removal of the president. In this context, Salahuddin Ahmed, a member of the party’s standing committee, said, “We will try to convince those who are in the anti-discrimination student movement and civic committee so that there is no crisis.”
A circular was sent from the President’s press wing on October 21 when various criticisms were made on the President’s statement on the issue of Sheikh Hasina’s resignation. Where President Sahabuddin said, Sheikh Hasina’s resignation is a settled matter. Therefore, he urged not to create controversy about it.
But the anti-discrimination student movement says that the President. Sahabuddin is loyal to former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina. That is why they consider his position as a crisis.
If the BNP does not agree, will it be possible to remove the president?
In response, member secretary of anti-discrimination student movement Sohel told BBC Bangla, ‘BNP is a big political party, this demand may not be fulfilled without consensus. That’s why we will meet with them again and discuss.’
Jamaat-e-Islami, Islami Andolan, 12 Alliance and other parties and alliances have expressed solidarity with the students’ demands on the presidential issue. But some of them gave importance to political consensus earlier.
However, political analysts feel that this is not a major crisis.
Mohiuddin Ahmad says, ‘President is not an obstacle for those who are running the government now. Because he has no power. Then the crisis it is thinking about is not serious.’
He said, “Instead, if there is a crisis due to his recovery, the third party will try to find an opportunity.”
That is why BNPO wants to stop the path of new crisis on this issue.
Salahuddin Ahmed, a member of the party’s standing committee, said, “We will try to convince those who are in the anti-discrimination student movement and civic committee so that there is no crisis.”
Why BNP’s objection to the presidential issue?
President gave an interview to the editor of a newspaper on the issue of Sheikh Hasina’s resignation last week. Sahabuddin. It is said that Sheikh Hasina does not have any documentary proof of her resignation.
Many controversies were created across the country around the President’s statement in the interview.
Last Tuesday, some small organizations surrounded the Banga Bhavan demanding the President’s resignation.
On the same day, the anti-discrimination student movement and the National Citizen Committee also gave an ultimatum demanding the president’s resignation.
The next day, a delegation of BNP met with the Chief Adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus. Coming out of there, they said that they do not want any constitutional crisis to arise at this moment.
After that, leaders of anti-discrimination student movement and National Citizen Committee held a meeting with BNP on the presidential issue last Saturday.
But even in the meeting with the student leaders, BNP was adamant about their previous position.
BNP Standing Committee member Salahuddin Ahmed told BBC Bangla, “We are not asking for a crisis or a constitutional vacuum on this issue for the sake of the country, for the sake of transition to democracy.”
As a reason, BNP says that if this crisis is created at this moment, it may give an opportunity to some other unconstitutional forces.
However, political analysts say the impeachment issue is more political than a constitutional crisis.
Analyst Rasheda Rawonak Khan told BBC Bangla, ‘BNP knows very well that if elections are held at this moment, they will be able to form the government with a majority. And if the issue of removal of the President comes up, then there will be a possibility of postponing the election. Maybe that’s why BNP objected.’
