At least 28 people, including women and children, were killed in an Israeli attack on a school used as a shelter for displaced families in Gaza. Another 54 people were injured.
The Palestinian Red Crescent reported this information. The attack took place on Thursday at the Rufaida al-Aslamiya school near the Red Crescent headquarters in the Gaza city of Deir al-Balah.
Videos from the scene of the attack showed people rushing to help the injured. Clouds of dust and smoke all around. Some injured children are also seen being treated at the local Al Aqsa Hospital in the video.
Israel’s military says the attack targeted Hamas fighters who operate a Hamas command and control center at the school. They also said they took steps to keep civilian casualties to a minimum.
And Israel has accused Hamas of misusing civilian infrastructure. However, Hamas has previously denied such allegations.
Gaza’s Hamas-run health ministry also put the death toll at 28 from the Israeli attack on the school on Thursday. They called it a new massacre by the Israeli army.
