In Mymensingh, 33 thousand families are under water in 3 upazilas

33 thousand families are trapped in water due to heavy rains and landslides in Haluaghat, Dhobaura and Phulpur upazilas of Mymensingh. In this situation, the relief distribution program is going on along with the rescue work of the victims.


District and upazila administration officials confirmed these facts at 1 pm on Monday (October 7).

According to the sources, among the forest affected areas, the water has started decreasing in Bhubankura, Jubli, Kaichapur, Sadar, Gazirvita and Municipal areas among the 12 unions of Haluaghat upazila. However, the flood situation has worsened in a total of 6 unions including Dhara, Dhurail, Narail, Sakhuai, Amoil and Bildora. Upazila Executive Officer (UNO) said that 18,000 families are currently under water in this upazila. Ershadul Ahmed.

The situation is similar in neighboring Dhobaura upazila. Among the total 7 unions of this upazila, flood water has decreased in Gamaritala, Ghoshgaon and Dakshin Maijpara unions. However, upazila executive officer (UNO) Nishat Sharmin has confirmed that about 9,500 families in 4 unions including Sadar, Gwatla, Porakandalia and Bagber are still under water.

Besides, Phulpur Upazila Executive Officer (UNO) ABM Ariful Islam said that Sinheshwar, Chandhara and Sadar Union were flooded again. Currently, 5,100 families in three unions of Phulpur Upazila are in a water-locked state due to the flood water caused by heavy rains and landslides. The number of affected families is 17 thousand.

District Relief and Disaster Rehabilitation Officer. Sanwar Hossain said that the relief distribution program is going on along with the rescue work of the water trapped people in the flood affected areas. 63 metric tons of rice, 7 lakh cash and 2000 dry food packets have already been distributed in these areas.

On the other hand, District Fisheries Officer Mohammad Nazim Uddin said that there has been extensive damage to the fisheries sector due to floods. He said that 7 thousand 80 fishermen have been affected by heavy rains and landslides. Damage to infrastructure is 217 lakhs, 5 thousand 624 lakhs of fish and 149 lakhs of rhinoceros have been washed away.

Among the three upazilas of the district, in Dhobaura upazila, 11 thousand 700 hectares of rice crops have been submerged in water. 7 thousand 600 hectares of paddy and 75 hectares of vegetable crops have been submerged in Haluaghat. Same situation in Phulpur. In this upazila, 3 thousand 630 hectares of paddy and 62 hectares of vegetable crops have been submerged in water.
