It was already known in which direction the disastrous cyclone ‘Helen’ will flow. Actions were taken accordingly.
Many coastal cities in the US state of Florida were evacuated ahead of the storm’s arrival. The city of Steinhatchee was also included in the list of cities threatened by the storm.
The city of Steinhatchee was among the hardest-hit Florida cities hit by the storm, CNN reported Monday. Hurricane Helen hit the city with a speed of about 225 km/h with waves of 10 to 15 feet.
According to US-based The Express, Hurricane Helen’s strength was so high that the town of Steinhatchee was almost completely wiped off the map!
About 500 people live in Steinhatchee, about 90 miles southeast of Florida’s capital city of Tallahassee, according to the report. Authorities evacuated them from the city before the storm arrived. After the storm subsided, some residents returned and staggered. Because there is nothing left of the city they knew. All around are pictures of destruction. Many say that their favorite city has been erased from the map.
According to CNN, 118 people have been confirmed dead in the storm so far. But many more are missing. So the death toll may increase. Power lines in various cities were also blown down. As a result, thousands of people are without electricity.
In addition to Florida, the storm affected large areas of Georgia, Tennessee, and North and South Carolina. In some places, high tides of more than 15 feet were seen. Officials have yet to tally the damage from the storm. However, since there is no danger of any storm, the authorities are hoping that the situation will pass quickly.
