North Korea has sent about 10,000 troops to train in Russia, the Pentagon and NATO have confirmed.
Pentagon Deputy Press Secretary Sabrina Singh and NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte confirmed this information to reporters on Monday. Reuters news
Sabrina Singh said, We believe that North Korea has sent around 10,000 soldiers for training in eastern Russia. These troops may be deployed with Russian forces in Ukraine in the coming weeks.
Meanwhile, on the same day, NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte confirmed North Korea’s deployment of troops to Russia. North Korean military units have been deployed in the Kursk border region of Russia, he said.
However, last week it was reported by Washington that North Korea has deployed 3,000 troops in Russia.
In response to North Korea’s troop deployment in Russia, Kiev has asked Western allies to allow more arms deliveries to Ukraine and to launch strikes deep into Russia. A South Korean delegation informed NATO officials and diplomats on Monday of North Korea’s deployment of troops to Russia. Rutte told reporters shortly afterward that Russia and North Korea’s close military cooperation is a security threat to both the Indo-Pacific and the Euro-Atlantic.
South Korean President Eun Suk Yul also expressed concern during a telephone conversation with Rutte and European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen. Yun told von der Leyen that the deployment of North Korean troops to the front lines of the Ukraine war could happen sooner than expected.
