Accounts of 14 members of Sikdar family are frozen

The Bangladesh Financial Intelligence Unit (BFIU) has frozen the bank accounts of late Zainul Haque Sikder’s wife Monowara Sikder and their 7 children. At the same time, all the information including the transactions of each account has been requested. A letter was sent to all the banks on Monday.

The 7 children of Zainul Haque and Manwara Sikder who are on account freeze list are Rick Haque Sikder, Ron Haque Sikder, Dipu Haque Sikder, Mumtazul Haque Sikder, Parveen Haque Sikder, Nasim Sikder and Lisa Fatema Haque Sikder. Naseem Sikder’s daughter Monica Khan Sikder, Rick Sikder’s two sons Sean Haque Sikder and John Haque Sikder. Their family members are Salahuddin Khan, Jeffrey Khan Sikder and Mendi Khan Sikder. If any business is run in their name, that account has also been asked to be frozen. At the same time, these persons have been asked to send all account opening forms, KYC, updated transaction statements related to their interests to BFIU within the next 5 working days.

This action has been taken under section 23(1)(c) of the Prevention of Money Laundering Act. BFIU takes such measures to prevent various crimes including money laundering, illegal withdrawal of money. 

Since the fall of the Awami League government on August 5, many people’s accounts have been frozen in the face of the student movement. In the meantime, the organization has frozen the accounts of Sheikh Hasina family members, former ministers, MPs, various levels of police officials, businessmen. Apart from BFIU, various organizations including ACC, NBR are working to uncover information on various irregularities and corruption including money laundering, revenue evasion, bank robbery.
