Earlier on September 2, Home Affairs Advisor Lieutenant General (retd.) Md. Jahangir Alam Chowdhury said that the re-investigation of the Pilkhana BDR rebellion will begin soon.

He said that the present government is determined to establish people’s rights, good governance and justice. Not only as a Home Advisor, but as a common citizen and ex-serviceman, I want justice for the BDR massacre.

The Home Affairs Adviser said that a proper re-investigation and justice process of this murder will be started soon.

The chairman of the commission of inquiry formed by the army into the tragic incident of the BDR rebellion was Home Affairs Advisor Jahangir Alam Chowdhury, who also served as the BDR chief before that.

A total of 74 people, including 57 army officers, were killed in the mutiny at the BDR headquarters on February 25 and 26, 2009. The incident created a stir in the international arena beyond the borders of the country.

In this incident, two cases were registered under the Explosives and Murder Act. 468 BDR members have been acquitted in the murder case or have been sentenced to prison because of the explosives case.

On November 5, 2013, the trial of 850 people in the murder case ended. In this, 152 people were hanged, 160 people were sentenced to life imprisonment and 256 people were sentenced to various terms of imprisonment. 278 people were acquitted.

On November 27, 2017, the death reference and appeal judgment of that case was also passed in the High Court. The death sentence of 139 accused was upheld. 185 were sentenced to life imprisonment and 228 were sentenced to various terms. Apart from this, 283 people were acquitted.

A total of 54 accused including 15 died before the High Court verdict. 226 accused have appealed and leave to appeal against the judgment given by the High Court in the murder case. On the other hand, the state filed a leave to appeal against the verdict of acquittal of 83 accused and reduction of sentence in the High Court. These appeals and leave to appeal are now awaiting hearing.

On the other hand, in the Explosives Act case, the trial started against 834 accused in 2010. But in the middle, the proceedings of the explosives case were suspended and the state presented only the evidence of the murder case. As a result, the trial of this case was suspended. However, after the interim government assumed responsibility for the change of governance, there was a demand to resume the investigation of the incident of BDR rebellion.
