Anti-discrimination student movement coordinator Hasnat Abdullah said that Awami League is secretly plotting rehabilitation to regain political power after recent incidents and statements.
In a video message posted on his verified Facebook page on Monday (October 21) afternoon, Hasnat alleged that despite the recent political ups and downs, the Awami League is moving to regain dominance over the country.
He referred to a statement of President Md Sahabuddin, the President said that Sheikh Hasina did not submit any resignation letter before fleeing the country.
Hasnat interprets this as a sign that Awami League is taking a comeback strategy in the name of political rehabilitation.
Hasnat said, ‘We have seen the recent activities of the Chhatra League in Chittagong University, where they seem to be laying the groundwork for reconstruction. Various parts of Awami League, Chhatra League and Jubo League are trying to reorganize in Dhaka. If these incidents are connected, it can be understood that they are trying to revive the fascist structure.
Expressing concern about the administrative and judicial efforts to rehabilitate the party, he said, ‘An attempt is being made to bring back the Awami League through the institutional process.’
To counter this, the coordinator emphasized the need for national unity and urged citizens to come together to prevent the resurgence of the party.
Referring to past political alliances, he said, ‘Before August 5, we were all united against the dictatorship of Awami League. We stand united as the oppressed, fighting against the oppressor.’
He lamented, “After August 5, petty personal interests have created division among us, which has created an opportunity for Awami League’s comeback conspiracy.”
Hasnat urged the people to rise above political affiliations and stay united to resist the party’s rehabilitation efforts.
Calling for a permanent ban on Awami League, Chhatra League and Jubo League, he said, ‘We have to maintain our presence on the streets and root out Awami League from the soil of Bangladesh.’
In response to President Sahabuddin’s statement, Hasnat posted on Facebook and claimed, ‘Hasina has been ousted; The people overthrew an illegitimate government in a coup. The question of resignation does not arise here.’
