Shakib Al Hasan’s fans have once again started a movement demanding to bring him back to the country and give him a chance to retire with dignity. They brought a long march in front of the Mirpur Stadium at around two o’clock on Sunday.
The fans made a one-time demand to give Shakib a chance to retire on the soil of the country. If they do not agree, they demand the resignation of BCB president Farooq Ahmed.
However, their long march was blocked in front of the army that had already taken position. After that there was a chase between Shakib fans and Shakib opponents.
They said that the previous Awami League government has no involvement with the agitators. Shakib fans urged not to associate politics with this demand related to the game. At that time, the spokesperson of the agitators referred to the board president Farooq Ahmed as a failure.
He said, ‘Because they failed to show enough respect to Bangladesh’s greatest sportsman and when he apologized and explained his position, still failed to guarantee him safety, it was a failure. We don’t want a failed board president.’
It should be noted that Shakib Al Hasan flew to Bangladesh from the United States to play his last Test a couple of days ago. The condition was that he will play his last test on the soil of the country if he gets enough security. You will retire from here. But after reaching Dubai, Shakib was returned. Shakib Al Hasan reverted to the direct advice of Asif Mahmud, Sports Advisor to the Interim Government of Bangladesh.
In this explanation yesterday, the sports advisor said, ‘I have clarified the matter of Shakib Al Hasan through a statement from my page. I have given this advice to the BCB in order to ensure the safety of the players and avoid any untoward atmosphere in the sports arena in the circumstances that arise. I advised the BCB not to come to the country for the time being and the BCB has spoken accordingly.’
Asif Mahmud said, ‘Security is not about playing safely in the country, security is also about making it ineffective in advance if there is any possibility of security disruption in the country. We have to think about security from both sides.’
