Attempts by the Indian Border Guard Force (BSF) to construct a barbed wire fence at the PanchBB border in Joypurhat have failed in the face of obstacles from the Border Guard Bangladesh-BGB. As a result, the BSF personnel could not construct a barbed wire fence on the border.
The incident took place at Sonatala border area under Hatkhola BOP camp of Panchbibi upazila of Joypurhat around 5:30 am on Saturday.
According to BGB and local residents sources, according to international law, no structure can be built within 150 yards of the border area. But the BSF personnel of the Indian border guarding force started construction of temporary barbed wire fence along with netting with bamboo poles about 20 yards inside India near the main pillar number 3 and 4 of the main pillar number 280 of Sonatala border area of Panchbibi upazila. After getting to know about the matter through the local residents, immediately the patrol team of BGB Hatkhola BOP of PanchBB went to the spot and stopped them. As a result, the BSF was forced to stop the construction of the barbed wire fence.
Joypurhat-20 BGB captain Lt. Colonel Md. Nahid Newaz confirmed the truth of this incident.
In a press release, he said that a flag meeting was held at the company commander level of BGB and BSF on the issue.
In the meeting, the company commander of the Indian Border Guard Force-BSF assured to stop the construction of barbed wire fence on that border.
