The Indian Border Guard Force (BSF) has again tried to erect a barbed wire fence at the Panchbibi border in Jaipurhat. However, the BSF could not build the fence in the face of obstacles from the Bangladesh Border Guard Force (BGB).
This incident happened on Saturday (October 19) around 8:30 am.
According to BGB and local sources, encirclement cannot be done within 150 yards of the border according to international law. However, the BSF personnel started work to construct a barbed wire fence approximately 15 yards inside India from Main Pillar No. 280 to Sub Pillar No. 3 and 4 in Sonatala area of the border. The BGB came to know about the matter through the locals and stopped it. After that, the BSF members stopped working.
Laizur Rahman, a member of the local union council, said that when the BGB was informed about the incident, they stopped it. Later BSF stopped working and left there.
When asked, 20-BGB Joypurhat Battalion Commander Lt. Col. Nahid Newaz said that a flag meeting has been held at the company commander level regarding the matter. They (BSF) stopped working. He assured that he will not do such work in the future.
