The Nationalist Lawyers Forum has demanded the withdrawal of all cases filed against BNP Acting Chairman Tariq Rahman. The leaders of the organization warned the interim government and said, ‘I demand immediate withdrawal of all the false cases filed against Tariq Rahman. Otherwise, the legal society will be forced to take to the streets again.
Advocate Zainul Abedin, president of the Nationalist Lawyers Forum, gave this warning in a press conference at the Supreme Court Bar Bhavan on Monday.
Zainul Abedin said in a written statement, “Various political parties and students have struggled for 17 years against the fascist government for democracy. BNP and party’s Acting Chairman Tariq Rahman has led uninterruptedly in this struggle with various political parties. All the cases filed against Tariq Rahman are political and a few false cases have also been announced against him on the orders of the absconding leader of the fascist group, Sheikh Hasina. But it is with great regret that we notice that the proper authorities are not taking any action regarding these political cases filed against Tariq Rahman, it is very sad. We strongly demand immediate withdrawal of these false cases filed against him. Otherwise, the legal society will be forced to take to the streets again.’
He also said, ‘The accused of the July massacre including the fugitive Sheikh Hasina must be brought back to the country and face trial. Besides, we demand that the current interim government will complete the necessary reforms very quickly and announce the electoral roadmap for the return of democracy in the country.
More than a hundred lawyers were present in the press conference, including President of the Supreme Court Lawyers Association Barrister AM Mahbub Uddin Khokon, Editor Barrister Ruhul Quddus Kajal and Vice President of Nationalist Lawyers Forum Chowdhury Golam Mohammad Alal.
