Embezzlement of Tk 50 lakh, case against former principal

Awami League leader Mamunur Rashid, the fugitive principal of Mahasthan Mahiswar Degree College in Bogra, has been accused of misappropriating Tk 50 lakh of college funds. Acting principal of the college Matiur Rahman filed this case in the Bogra Senior Judicial Magistrate Court.

Mamunur Rashid is a resident of Punat village in Kalai upazila of Joypurhat. He is the former leader of Joypurhat District and Kalai Upazila Awami League. After the political change on August 5, there were several cases against him including murder in Joypurhat. Voluntarily submitted his resignation on August 18 after going into hiding to avoid arrest. After that, Matiur Rahman became the acting principal.

It is mentioned in the statement that from January 1 to July 31 of this year, one crore 43 lakh five thousand 681 taka was withdrawn from several accounts of the college. Of this, more than half a million rupees have been embezzled by withdrawing fake vouchers. The principal embezzled Tk 161,000 for the admission fee of 23 students of the first year, Tk 280,000 of the 40 students of the third year, and Tk 252,000 of the fourth year students without depositing it in the bank. Apart from this, they embezzled 1 lakh 1 thousand 40 taka for making identity cards and solder batch of 4 lakh 73 thousand 680, 654 students and 80 thousand taka from students whose admission was cancelled. Former principal Mamunur Rashid could not be reached as the phone was switched off.
