Two trains collide in India

A collision between two trains took place in the Trivallur division of Tamil Nadu, India. A high-speed express train and a freight train collided today on Friday night. At least 12 coaches of the express train derailed and fell to the side. Besides, the parcel compartment of the express train caught fire. The country’s media reported this information in the report NDTV. =

According to the report, 10 injured passengers were taken to a nearby hospital for treatment.  

Railway officials said in preliminary information that the Mysore-Dharbanga Bagmati express train hit the freight train. At that time the cargo tent was standing.

An Indian Railways statement later said the crew of the express train experienced a severe jolt while entering Kavaripettai station. At that time the train goes to the loop line instead of going through the main line as per the signal. The train entered the loop line at a speed of 75 kmph and hit the freight train.

Senior railway official Dilip Kumar said that 95 percent of the passengers of the express train have been rescued. They have not reported any casualties or serious injuries so far.

The Railway Minister of India has been informed about the accident. Railway officials said that he is monitoring the matter himself from the ‘war room’ of the railways in New Delhi. They also said that the minister has ordered adequate treatment of the injured and other passengers to reach their destination.
