Police arrested 37 Rohingyas including 21 children while infiltrating from Myanmar by sea trawler in Cox’s Bazar Teknaf.
They were arrested from Jahaspura area of Baharchhara Union of Teknaf at around 10 o’clock on Monday night.
Among the detained Rohingyas are 21 children, 12 women and four men. All their homes are said to be in different villages of Maungdu city in Myanmar.
Detained Rohingya Rezia Begum said, Arakan Army has burnt our house. They airstrike our village, killing many. So Myanmar came to the Naf River to live. From there I entered Bangladesh with a trawler. The brokers took 15 thousand taka per person from us.
Another Rohingya, Fatema Begum (50), said that the Arakan Army is oppressing us more. Many people have been killed by drones in front of us. Money-jewelry has been stolen. So when we were forced to go to the bank of the Naf river and cry, a trawler picked us up and took us down to Bangladesh.
Amhad Hossain Khokon, chairman of Teknaf’s Baharchhara Union, said that members of the Dalal Chakra brought Rohingyas from Myanmar in exchange for money. Later they dropped them on the bank of Naf river. Most of them are children. Initially they are given food.
Teknaf Model Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Muhammad Ghiyas Uddin said that 37 Rohingya including 21 children were detained with the help of locals while infiltrating from Myanmar in a trawler through brokers. They have been handed over to BGB.
