Nurses strike for three hours on one-point demand

According to the announcement, the nurses are on strike across the country for a one-point demand. They started the strike from 9 am on Tuesday (October 1).


Their demand is that excluding bureaucrats and cadres, nurses should be appointed to those positions on the basis of merit and skill.

On the ground, nurses at Dhaka Medical College (DMH) Hospital and Sheikh Hasina National Institute of Burn and Plastic Surgery are seen on strike. However, emergency department, emergency OT, ICU, PICU, dialysis and emergency medical services are open. If the demand is not met, they will observe strike on Wednesday.

Sabbir Mahmud, a member of the Central Committee of the Nursing and Midwifery Reform Council, said that according to the announcement, a three-hour strike is going on today from 9 am to 12 pm. If the demand is not met, a 5-hour strike will be observed on Wednesday from 9 am to 2 pm. We are planning to go for complete shutdown to collect the demand.

Earlier, on Monday (September 30) in a press conference in the emergency department of Dhaka Medical College, the convenor of Nursing and Midwifery Reform Council Dr. Md. Shariful Islam announced a three-hour strike across the country.
