The Interim Government’s Advisory Council has approved the list of public holidays for 2025. Next year there will be 26 days of holidays combined with general and executive orders. 9 of these days are weekends (5 on Friday and 4 on Saturday).
On Thursday (October 17) in Tejgaon Chief Adviser Dr. The advisory council meeting was held under the chairmanship of Muhammad Yunus. The list of holidays was approved in this meeting. The matter was later confirmed from the Chief Adviser’s press wing.
In the list of authorized holidays next year, there will be 12 days of general holidays and 14 days of holidays by executive order. A total of 4 days leave has increased since last year. Next year’s holy Eid-ul-Azha will be 6 days and Eid-ul-Fitr will be a 5-day public holiday. Among them, two Eids are a day off. And the rest of the days will be holiday by executive order. Autumn Durga Puja holiday has been made for 2 days. A general holiday is Vijay Dasami, before which there will be a holiday by executive order on Navami.
Subjects included in the list of approved holidays are:
(a) 12 (times) days of general holidays on the occasion of national days and important religious events of various communities. 5 of these holidays fall on weekends (3 Fridays and 2 Saturdays).
(b) 14 days official holiday by executive order on the occasion of Bengali New Year and various important religious festivals; 4 of these holidays fall on weekends (2 Fridays and 2 Saturdays).
(c) Elective leave of not more than 03 days in a year to employees of the Republic on religious occasions.
(d) 2 days optional leave on the occasion of celebration of major social festival Baisabi or similar social festival for the employees belonging to different minority groups working in Chittagong Hill Tracts area and outside. This holiday includes one weekend (1 Saturday).
(e) Proposed to declare 12 days general holiday and 14 days public holiday by executive order. That is, the proposed total leave is 26 days.
It may be noted that in 2024 AD the total leave allowed (02 days weekend excluding Friday) was 22 days.
