Financial assistance has been given to 122 people who were injured in the attack by law enforcement forces and Awami League cadres along with the police during the July-August student-public movement. This money is given to them by July Shaheed Smriti Foundation. Nahid Islam, Advisor to the Ministry of Posts, Telecommunications and Information Technology and the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, handed over the donation check to the injured at Dhaka Medical College Hospital on Sunday.
According to the Department of Posts and Telecommunications, a total of 122 people have been paid 1 crore 22 lakh 64 thousand 400 taka 1 lakh per person. Among them, 23 out of 30 people under treatment at Dhaka Medical College have been given a check of 1 lakh per person. As the names of the remaining seven are not complete, they were paid on Saturday through BKash. 33 people under treatment at National Institute of Ophthalmology and 59 people at National Orthopedic Hospital and Rehabilitation Institute (NITOR) have been given money.
So far, a total of Tk 1 crore 71 lakh 42 thousand 50 has been donated to 176 injured people from July Shaheed Smriti Foundation. Earlier, the adviser inquired about the current condition of the injured under treatment in the hospital and assured them of being by their side. At this time, he said, financial donations are being given from the foundation to the families of those who were injured and killed in the movement. The matter is ongoing. Referring to cases against journalists, the adviser said, those who were directly associated with the fascist government, were instigators and supported the genocide, would be brought to justice. Apart from this, a committee has been formed in the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting to look into any case against someone unfairly. Regarding the case of injured and killed, he said that a legal team is working in this regard. We will complete this trial in the Special Tribunal.
Nahid also said that those who were martyred and injured in the uprising are the heroes of the country. We request that we do not divide the martyrs and the injured by any party or banner. He said, ‘Before coming to Dhaka Medical, many people have received treatment in different places, we will pay their expenses.’ At that time the injured Jamal Hussain requested the adviser to arrange monthly allowance for the elderly and employment for the youth.
Meanwhile, regarding the cases against the agitators in various places, the advisor of the Ministry of Youth and Sports Asif Mahmud Sajib Bhuiyan said that instructions will be issued from the Ministry of Home Affairs in this regard soon, so that no action is taken against the agitators anywhere. No matter how powerful the policemen involved in the killing of protesters, they will not be spared.
